About Opportunity Bank of Montana
Opportunity Bank of Montana is a full-service community bank with locations across Montana, offering customers a range of banking, lending, agricultural, and digital banking services.
Our story began in Helena in 1922, when American Building and Loan opened its doors to help Montanans build stronger financial futures. From the beginning, banking was personal. Families, businesses, and neighbors found a partner who understood their goals, their challenges, and the place they call home.
Rooted in Montana Communities
We’re a Montana born community bank made up of people who live and work in the same towns we serve. That local perspective helps shape the decisions we make and relationships we build. Community banking means knowing our customers, understanding local needs, and showing up.
Growing with the State
As Montana grew, so did we. Not with the goal of becoming the biggest bank, but with the purpose of bringing relationship‑driven banking to more communities across the state. From our founding through the early 1990s, we experienced several name and organizational changes, navigating economic shifts, emerging technologies, and the growing needs of our customers.
One of the most significant changes came in 1991, when we became American Federal Savings Bank—a presence many came to know and trust for nearly 25 years.
What “Opportunity” Means to Us
In 2014, we became Opportunity Bank of Montana. The name reflects both where we are and what we believe in. To us, opportunity is a belief in possibility, partnership, and helping Montanans build strong financial futures.
